Yet another reason i don’t like Nautilus
XoreI’ve been using gnome desktop for well over a year, and as much as i like gnome (over, say, KDE), i’ve come to grips with the fact that i detest nautilus. It started with the shell scripting when i wanted to launch nautilus file browsers, and nautilus happily ignored all –geometry settings.
Today, i cleared off my desktop which has accumulated a month or two’s worth of debris. Anyone who likes to put things on their desktop via CLI is aware that gnome uses some sort of caching, since things don’t show up very quickly/readily. After wiping a lot of stuff off it today via CLI, i finally took the time to figure out how to refresh it (since I had taken the time to clear it off, i’d like it to at least look cleared off)
From ubuntu guide:
Q: How to refresh GNOME desktop?
1. Read General Notes
2. killall nautilus
Someone stole a page from Microsoft Explorer’s book. CLI wins. Again.

You need fluxbox + Thunar (file manager).
Welcome to the beauty of simplicity.
