Coffee Intake, Fireworks, and Failed External SSH Connections
XoreSo, more or less recently, i’ve been cutting back on my coffee intake. Four months ago, I was at around 4-6 mugs (~1.5 cups each) per day. The fact is, if i’m not working or going to school full time, there isn’t much point in actually drinking coffee or staying awake, and similar such silly things.
For the past couple weeks, i’ve been intermittantly trying to be down to 1-or-less cup a day, and i’ve met this with a varied success factor.
- It seems a shame to put on a pot of coffee just to brew a single damn cup
- Since i’m not picky about how young or old my coffee is, i’m really not opposed to putting on as much as 8 or 10 cups and letting it last over the course of several days. Then it’s just a matter of turning on the machine and warming up the pot before serving myself
- This is met with limited success when i find dead bugs floating in the pot in the morning. Scratch a pot of coffee
- Buy a cup? Hell no, I’m not forking out money for coffee at a coffeeshop… coffee at most of these places tastes like shit. No fun
- Lazy me just says to hell with it and try to push the “1 cup a day” to “less than one cup a day” and trying to skip a day every once and a while
- Days when i have 0 coffee intake are denoted by my overall lack of productivity, mental agitation, hair loss and contamination of the outer retina because i stare numbskulled at my CRT all day with nothing passing between my ears. No fun.
- So i’m going to try some anti-bugifying the coffee pot measures, to see if i can keep a pot bugfree long enough for me to reach the bottom of it.
Friday was one of those days. I had meant to get up fairly early and head up to campus for the end of semester social, but didn’t manage to get up to campus until around 3:30 in the afternoon, and missed most of it. Several of the profs and lecturers were taking turns in the dunk tank, so i missed my shot at that. What a shame.
Red Bull, Red Bull, Red Bull, Red Bull. Recommended intake is 2 a day. I had 4 inside 3 hours. Whee?
After that, we went down to the Mountain Shadow for my friend Aimee’s birthday. According to the waitress, they had a little old italian lady in the kitchen making authentic italian lasagna, which was on special that evening. Damn good lasagna, well worth it. After dinner was drinking and dancing. All in all, a good time, though i had to leave a little early so i could catch the last bus home.
Saturday, I got my nose stuck in the latest Harry Potter book. I’d read the entire series over the past 2 weeks, and decided to get caught up to where everyone else was at. I usually don’t like subscribing to any art form - music, visual art, literature… purely because it’s popular, so despite people assuring me that it’s really good regardless, i never really found an interest in picking up the books. However, now that i’ve gone and done it, i must say that i wasn’t disappointed, and I have to admit i’m impressed at the way J.K.Rowling mixed a couple themes and subplots into the series, and has stuck to them in a recurring fashion rather than seeking a resolution for them at the end of each book.
I didn’t notice the time, and as such, I got to the student society barbeque on Jericho beach a little late x_x. The Fireworks for that evening were put on by Sweden… they did a pretty good job, but part of the set was an ABBA medley that (imo) was really poorly done. I honestly thought Canada, which had put on Wednesday’s fireworks, had done a much better job, even though i didn’t have a radio to hear the accomanying music for that evening. I might be able to get some pictures up, if i can get them off my friend.
Tomorrow’s are put on by China, i’m not sure if i’m going yet or not, but i hope to be… and then of course, next saturday is the finale, which i’m probably going to attend.
Monday, was hectic. I woke up late, and discovered that it was August already, so i had to make a detour to the store to pick up this month’s bus pass before i could go anywhere. Got on skytrain, but headed in the wrong direction. Finally ended up in poco where I helped my friend Mike who was putting in new hardwood laminate flooring in his new place.
I was intending to go out and help some more today, except that I got an email saying that one of the client’s servers was encountering a variety of difficulties (web stuff down and not accepting incoming ssh connections). Called around noon when i woke up and got the email, but my contact was in a meeting, and despite my request to get called back, i didn’t get anything until much later that afternoon when i ended up calling in again to figure out whether I needed to head downtown to fix it today. Turns out I didn’t, but the delay was long enough that the day got wasted, no point in heading to poco because you can only be using saws so late at night before bylaws make you stop. I need to start waking up earlier in the morning, avoid all this crap.
Will I? probably not…
