Pictures Past Pi

Xore

Dusting off what (i had though) would be the last of the April Fool’s Forum alterations for the evening, i admired my smurfy handiwork and hit the bunk. And lay there for twenty minutes listening to the wind howl outside.

It’s hard to describe what came over me, because i really can’t explain it… I found myself pulling on my heavy coat, some old runners, and stepping out the door for a brisk walk, nearly 3 am. Into the howling wind and (not so) pouring rain.

I guess i’ve stated before that i’m not one to be much put off by rain - indeed, i quite enjoy it. So there i was, walking down the road at 3 am through a dark suburban neighborhood being pelted by whatever stray raindrops the wind saw fit to send spitting my way. There’s a kaleidescope of things you can discover when you’re out and about in a time, place, and weather pattern no sane person usually likes to find themselves in. A single evergreen tree, laden down with it’s growth of needles, can make as much noise with a heavy wind passing through it, as a nearby highway’s traffic does during peak hours when loads of traffic is rushing by, not yet reduced to the overweight crawl that comes near suppertime. It can also sound like the surf on a rocky shoreline, if you’ve ever been to the ocean.

In a moment of foresight, i had decided to grab the camera before i walked out the door. Now, there’s something to be said about capturing what you see, but there’s no way you can capture what you feel on a cold, windy night. Even a video camera couldn’t capture properly the motion of the trees, a scene is sterile without the cold wind blasting your face, and that hint of wetness in the air that comes with the climate.

The cold depths of suburbia

As the clock ticked upwards towards Pi, i found myself taking snapshots of trees and the skylines in a local public park. With my heavy black jacket, ripped jeans, and old sneakers. I probably fit somebody’s idea of a thug, deep in peaceful old suburbia :P It’s unfortunate that not all of my pictures turned out well. Then again, i’m not particularly skilled at photography either.

Clouds in the night sky

At any rate, i got back in shortly before 4 and decided to plug a couple last april fools shots (1 or 2 yet to come, perhaps) at the forum. Some users really need to develop a sense of humor, however ^_^

woah… the 2nd picture looks so cool… and freaky.

I would be scared like hell if I went out alone, in a sub-urban area, at 3AM.

Yeah, I do agree. Some users at Lifelesspeople.com take too many things seriously…. too seriously.

Your photography skills aren’t bad. (better than mine, at least).

Taking walks by yourself are fun.

You can sit there and listen to only what nature plays, or yourself, either midless banter or singing. Quite fun really :)

Your pictures are nice; cool skyline =]

I often enjoy walks in the wee early hours of the morning. I’m out in the country now so its more likely to run into a deer than anything sinister fortunately.

I agree with you on the people at LP. They could definately use a sense of humor. It was at first a shocker for me since its my first April Fools Day using LP but I caught on quickly and enjoyed it.
