a pile of junk here, a pile of junk there
XoreSo, my parents are somewhat political. My mom in particular is highly active as a secretary for a small provincial party… Saving on funds between elections means moving out of an office and into the spare bedroom. What a wonderful thing to have happen. Not only does it dominate all aspects of their conversation, but now it dominates many aspects of their life. Our phone line is the party phone line, so whenever i want to make a phone call, if there’s call display on the other end, i often get people wondering why the hell they’re getting called by a political party. Kinda sucks.
Anyway, after over a year of this, my parents finally came to the realization that enough was enough, and the office is moving out of the spare bedroom and onwards to new horizons. Namely, the spare room of someone else in the party. This afternoon i spent an hour driving the office computer out to it’s new home and setting it up. Borky old peice of shit, 300 mhz win98 box somehow retrofitted with a new 52x cdrom and 384 megs of ram … total waste of hardware. ps2 keyboard and mouse that work only when the adjective ‘marginally’ is appended. Kinda sad. It takes about 5 minutes to boot.
Not really much to say beyond that. I’m glad I brought my laptop along, because my mom ended up spending an hour discussing politics with the proprietor, and i’m too polite to interrupt and say “hey, i’m leaving”. I polished off a bit more of Sierra Echoes. array_splice() is cool.
And my ISP once again gets the daily “blows goat chunks” award for flaky dns

Aww, sucks about your ISP.
With the politics being out of your house your parents will have a lot more free time. Be wary of that! When people get free time it generally leads to home improvement O.o
Or a new bussiness in some cases.

Home improvement’s already well underway. Hardwood floors have been put into my old bedroom and my sisters’ old bedroom. The upstairs hallway is currently uprooted and awaiting my dad’s freetime. Next are the stairs, the living room, dining room, followed by my parent’s bedroom. Then the stairs from the foyer, then a pond in the backyard… the list goes on. When my dad finally retires (a year or two away) at least he’ll have stuff to keep him busy

sorry.
granted it is a mac, but I would rather do that than have nothing at all.
I would not pick up the phone if a political party was calling me, because I would assume they were asking for money. nice one xore. oh, and I bring my ibook with me when I stay over at peoples houses.
